A photo in Wildlife in NC Magazine 2014 January/February issue.

I was happy to hear from the Wildlife in NC Magazine editor that this picture will be in the current issue of the magazine. Every year Wildlife in NC Magazine holds a photo contest. I was excited to read an email from the editor of the magazine that I received third place for the Recreation category of the contest. It has been a few years since I entered the contest, but this year I decided to spend some time taking pictures of reptiles and any animals I could find. I actually won first place in the bird category back in 2007. This shot is from Thanksgiving of 2012 in Buxton, NC at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. The waves were pretty massive and the photographers were out capturing the surfers who were brave enough to tackle the surf. I noticed how golden orange the light was and when I looked back toward the lighthouse I noticed how the people lined up with the lighthouse and decided to capture a few images. This was the result.

Senior Portraits

I recently had the Kirk Pullen Photography studio renovated here in Warsaw, NC. Kayla, who is a senior at North Duplin High School had the pleasure of being the first person to experience it. The studio has more room and new sheet rock on the walls, so it actually holds heat or cold air now. Kayla did a great job posing with our antique chair that I found at a yard sale a few months ago. Kirk Pullen Photography is running a November portrait special. No minimum purchase and 50% off prints 8 x 10 or smaller and no other fees involved. I'll also give you one FREE facebook profile shot.

Dancing with the Arts Company

I had a super time in early June working with The Arts Company of Faison, NC. Little did I know how demanding this photo session would become. On day 1 of the Arts Company session I starting setting up around 2pm and did not leave that night until close to 10pm. Day 2 ended up being very close to the same amount of time. Needless to say I was exhausted after being on my feet for that long. I have to give a monumental amount of praise to Leigh Williams for helping pose the dancers and getting the dancers where they needed to be! I really think the pictures came out great and I look forward to working with them all again next year!

Spring Fling 2013

I worked this past weekend with the attendees of a middle school "Spring Fling." It is the equivalent of a high school prom where the students step out of their usual routine and get dressed up. I have had the privilege of working with this event for the last 5 years. As you can tell by the pictures, some of the students took direction very well with their posing. People often only see the snapping pictures portion of photography. I spent 2 hours setting up for the Spring Fling session, 3.5 hours taking pictures and 18 hours editing the pictures. I need a weekend to recover from my weekend. I look forward to working with the Spring Flinger's next year.

A New Logo for Kirk Pullen Photography

I have been working for several weeks now to come up with a new logo for Kirk Pullen Photography. I wanted something that was colorful and yet showed my ability to work with light and shadow. I feel like this logo represents what I was going for. I'll let you see a few of the rejected logos that I came up with. Of course you can see by the logo at the top of the page is the one I finally decided to go with.

RED

A few weeks ago, I was able to photograph a middle school dance. I made a custom background out of some unique material and painted it myself. The biggest problem I had with the background was getting the material to stay glued to the foam core that I used. Some of it started falling and I had to use duct tape to keep it from falling. Anyway, while making the background, I managed to get red paint everywhere in my studio! No one was hurt during the making of this background, although the red streaks everywhere might make you think otherwise. If you happen to see me in the next few days, I will be in the process of removing the red paint. If you are interested in getting a photograph session with a unique background then just contact me at the Kirk Pullen Photography Studio here in Warsaw, NC.

North Carolina Photographer - February Issue of Our State Magazine

The February issue of Our State Magazine has a spotlight on the Golden Grove Candy Company of Warsaw, North Carolina. Kirk Pullen Photography was contacted by the art director of Our State Magazine to capture the images for the article called THE PRIZE INSIDE. I had heard of the Golden Grove Candy Company before, but I was not sure what they sold. It was just by coincidence that I happened to eat one of their Carolina Crisp peanut bars at a high school basketball game the week before I was contacted. It was really cool getting to see the whole process in action. It is amazing that a small town like Warsaw can ship food all over the world. Lee Swinson is the owner and operator of the Golden Grove Candy Company and he was kind enough to give me the tour of factory where they make the peanuts and candy bars. Let's just say I have never seen so many peanuts in one place before. If you haven't got around to trying Golden Grove Peanuts and Carolina Crisp bars then you really need to. They taste great!

How I Created it...

On New Year's Eve I was helping my brother with a family portrait session in Rodanthe, NC. I found some really wicked looking trees. I used a stream from an old photo on a trip to the Pisgah Forest in the Mountains of North Carolina. Add in one prom photo of Victoria from last year who requested Angel wings on her photo and you have the end result. Keep visiting www.kirkpullenphotography.com for cool new composites in 2013!

The New Year brings changes to Kirk Pullen Photography

www.kirkpullenphotography.com has a new pricing structure for 2013. We will be offering more specials this year and we are excited about working with the Arts Company Studios out of Faison, NC. I've worked about 5 hours in Photoshop on this composite of a picture I call Radiant Angel. It all started from a prom photo that took at the Kirk Pullen Photography Studio here in Warsaw, NC. Tomorrow I will show how I put the composite together in photoshop, so stay tuned to this blog.
