Food Photography

I've been taking pictures of egg salad and meatloaf for the author of a new series of low carb cookbooks. It might seem easy to photograph food until you try arranging it, it can get messy quickly. Then you have to get the lighting just right. Thanks, Simply Keto for the opportunity to photograph and taste these incredible recipes.

Studio Family Portraits

Last weekend I was in the Kirk Pullen Photography studio with the Craft family. I held a contest on my Facebook business page a few months ago and the Craft family won a half hour family photo session. As you can see we had time to get a few different looks with different colored backgrounds. If you are interested in family portraits, contact me at my Warsaw, NC studio. (910-590-7761)

A Snowy Christmas

While there might not be snow on the ground, I did manage to find a snowy egret on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. These two images are of the same bird but from different angles. I love to get out and get wildlife images when I am on vacation at Cape Hatteras. I even got up early one morning and went to the Pea Island wildlife refuge. #nikon #snowyegret #birds #seabirds #capehatteras #wildlife #wildlifephotographer

Fall weather - Time for family portraits

I have been photographing the Williams family for many years and it is really amazing to see families grow. We had perfect weather for fall family portraits this year and the leaves were really popping with color. The great thing about the sun this time of year is that it sits farther on the horizon and just seems much softer than in the summer months. There are still fall colors on the trees, so call me today and set up a time your family. 910-590-7761 #fall #familyportraits #nikon #kirkpullenphotography #familyphotographer #leaves

Real Estate Photography - North Carolina

I have been contracting with real estate companies to photograph properties all over eastern North Carolina. When I photograph real estate properties, one of the most important aspects is exposure. The building needs to be properly exposed as well as the sky. If you don't know what you are doing, you can lose details in the sky when exposing for the building. When you work with Kirk Pullen Photography to help sell your real estate property, I will make sure the building and surroundings are properly exposed and the vertical lines are straight. The properties below are from numerous cities across North Carolina including Havelock, Mount Olive, Kenansville, Farmville and Merritt. #realestate #realestatephotography #realestatephotographerkirkpullen #commercialphotographer

Blue Skies Dreamy Clouds

As a photographer, I like to take images all over North Carolina. I try as much as I can to always have a camera in my car. I took this image of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse a few years ago and never had time to edit it. I was hunting for a certain image last weekend and I came across this one. As you can see the clouds were picture perfect! #capehatteraslighthouse #clouds #lighthouse #outerbanksnc

Haunted Hotel

This is the Buffalo Psychiatric Institute which housed patients for nearly 150 years. It's being turned into a 5 star hotel called Hotel Henry. They're leaving the other 5 bazillion square feet of the place unfinished so they can give tours. Kirk Pullen Photography was on vacation in upstate New York last week and we were staying less than a mile away from the Hotel. ‪#‎buffalopsychiatriccenter‬ ‪#‎nikon‬ ‪#‎creepy‬ ‪#‎hauntedhouse‬ ‪#‎buffalonewyork‬ #Richardson-Olmstead

Letchworth Middle Falls

I took this photo of the middle falls at Letchworth Park in upstate New York last week. What is a North Carolina photographer doing in New York? Well, I grew up in Houghton, which is a small town about 25 minutes from the park. I lived there until I was about 9 years old. We often go back on vacation to visit. It gets so cold there in the summer that the leaves have already changed. Nah! I totally faked it in Photoshop! Had ya going didn't I? If you are interested in purchasing this image, then click on this link to the Kirk Pullen Photography Shop.

Summer Waterfalls

This past week, I took a trip to upstate New York. There is a magnificent state park called Stony Brook. It  has more waterfalls in one location than I've ever seen and it also has some really cold water! They had a swimming area but only if you were a polar bear! It was 58 degrees! I am so proud of myself for swimming on both days that we visited the park. If you are interested in purchasing this image, then visit the Kirk Pullen Photography store! ‪#‎fingerlakes‬ ‪#‎nystateparks‬ ‪#‎neutraldensity‬ ‪#‎nikon‬ #stonybrookstatepark

As The World Turns-Cape Hatteras Lighthouse Star Trails

Every summer I get to visit Cape Hatteras where I grew up. I have been taking star trail photos of the Cape Hatteras lighthouse for almost 10 years now. If you don't know what "star trails" are then let me explain it. A camera can take pictures that last as long as you can expose it properly. That can be hours long if necessary. Anyway, this picture is about an hour long. Since the world is turning, the stars travel across the sky from the beginning of the photo until the end of the photo. If you look at the left side of the photo you can see where a meteorite is intersecting the star trails.

Capturing Star Trails at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

Every year while visiting my parent's house, I take long exposures of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. It can be difficult not to lose the details in the top section of the lighthouse, while photographing it. I recently figured out a technique to help remedy that situation. This is almost an hour long exposure. While the world rotates, the stars travel across the sky and the end result has stars leaving a trail. If you look closely on the left side of the photo, you can see a meteorite trail that intersects the star trails. I missed a few spots with my bug spray and the mosquitoes feasted on my ankles while I stood there taking the shot. I used to get a little worried standing alone in the dark, but I've done it so much that I rarely get spooked anymore. I am working on getting a gallery up if anyone is interested in buying a print of this photo.

Senior Portrait Time

Eagle Scout and Senior Portraits

I've found an Eagle's nest located at the Stewart household. This is the second Eagle Scout I've photographed from their family. I also captured some fun senior portraits for Noah. We have been friends with the Stewart family for a long time. It is really amazing how fast time passes as you see children grow into adults. That is why it is great to be a can help freeze time for people and help them remember the way things were.

Handing Out The Bruises

To be an aggressive football player and a dancer takes talent! We got to see Emilee in action on the field this winter and she was handing out the bruises. She also makes a great model! Emilee was wearing a cleat on one foot and a 5 inch heel on the other. It made it very difficult for her to balance. The background in this photo was captured with a 5 megapixel iphone 4. I took the photo of Emilee in the Kirk Pullen Photography studio and combined the two pictures in Photoshop.
