Capturing Star Trails at the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse

Every year while visiting my parent's house, I take long exposures of the Cape Hatteras Lighthouse. It can be difficult not to lose the details in the top section of the lighthouse, while photographing it. I recently figured out a technique to help remedy that situation. This is almost an hour long exposure. While the world rotates, the stars travel across the sky and the end result has stars leaving a trail. If you look closely on the left side of the photo, you can see a meteorite trail that intersects the star trails. I missed a few spots with my bug spray and the mosquitoes feasted on my ankles while I stood there taking the shot. I used to get a little worried standing alone in the dark, but I've done it so much that I rarely get spooked anymore. I am working on getting a gallery up if anyone is interested in buying a print of this photo.

Senior Portrait Time

I had a chance to work with a Senior from East Duplin High School a few weeks ago. She wanted some graduation and senior portraits in a studio and outdoor setting. As you can see, we had several different looks in the studio and then finished with some outdoor scenery located near Warsaw, NC.

Eagle Scout and Senior Portraits

I've found an Eagle's nest located at the Stewart household. This is the second Eagle Scout I've photographed from their family. I also captured some fun senior portraits for Noah. We have been friends with the Stewart family for a long time. It is really amazing how fast time passes as you see children grow into adults. That is why it is great to be a photographer...you can help freeze time for people and help them remember the way things were.

Handing Out The Bruises

To be an aggressive football player and a dancer takes talent! We got to see Emilee in action on the field this winter and she was handing out the bruises. She also makes a great model! Emilee was wearing a cleat on one foot and a 5 inch heel on the other. It made it very difficult for her to balance. The background in this photo was captured with a 5 megapixel iphone 4. I took the photo of Emilee in the Kirk Pullen Photography studio and combined the two pictures in Photoshop.
